The “Heritage Cities” programme prepared by the Community of Madrid comprises numerous tourism products which seek to promote the tourism potential of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez, three UNESCO listed sites.
The “Heritage Cities Passport” provides access to the programme and includes discounts in museums, hotels, restaurants, shops and other activities, as well as specific promotions.
The passport can be picked up at any Tourist Office of the Community of Madrid, and must be stamped by the local tourist office in each of the heritage cities.
In addition to the discounts mentioned, the passport provides other promotions offered by Patrimonio Nacional (Spain’s national heritage trust) –such as yearly or two-monthly passes for visiting the listed sites– and Madrid’s Regional Transport
Consortium –such as reduced rates for the purchase of tourist tickets on the Community of Madrid’s public transport network–.
A passport bearing the stamps of all three listed cities will entitle the holder to a free copy of the Community of Madrid’s set of guides on Cultural Tourism Routes for the region. These can be claimed by sending the stamped passport to the offices of the Dirección General de Turismo, at the address provided in www.madrid.org, before 31 December 2013.
